Challenge
Using Discourse as a single-sign-on provider for a Drupal site is a great idea, if you have users who should log into both of those platforms and probably jump forward and backward between those. An example of that is a product website which wants to interact with their customer base and needs some forum like platform in addition to other interaction like e-commerce or a blog.
LakeDropper involved
Solution
The module Discourse SSO has already been available but not for Drupal 8 at the time. As the involved LakeDroppers required that for a customer project, they jumped in and ported the module to Drupal 8 and since also maintain that version of the module.
